What is a FA file?

FA files are FASTA format files. The abbreviation ‘FA’ comes from the word FASTA. FASTA is a software package that is used in saving nucleic acid and protein sequences. David Lipman and William Pearson first described FASTA files as FSTP in the year 1985. That was after research on sensitive and rapid protein similarities. The original FASTA file program was to search the protein similarity sequences. By default, these files need special software to open. For Windows and Mac users, a dialogue box pops up prompting for the software to use. Some of the applications that can be used to view FA files are Erosion 3D Flow accumulation and FASTA. With the need to have this special software, FA files are complex. Unlike files that get opened by default software, FA files need extra input. Apart from the FA file extension, these files also have other extensions. Some include. mpfa, .fna, and .fas.
