What is a TDMS file?

TDMS in full means Technical Data Management System. TDMS files are basically data files. Inside the file are simulation or measurement details saved via an NI application. Good examples of NI software is DIAdem and LabVIEW. Apart from statistical data on simulation, TDMS files also contain explanatory information. Examples of such information include procedure, test fixture, and sensor information. Scientists record large amounts of data during simulation processes. The creation of the TDMS file to enable scientists to save big-sized files with ease. Simulation data is complex and can occupy large amounts of storage space. However, TDMS files can store such information without jeopardizing safety. Several programs instituted by NI are compatible with this file. In association with the data, TDMS index files are also created which happens automatically. These annex files usually hold particulars of specific files referred by the software accessing the TDMS file. This step is essential as it allows users to open large TDMS files with ease.
