EDB File

What is an EDB file?

An EDB file is a database file created by Microsoft Exchange Server. This folder acts as the central repository for mailbox data set aside by the exchange. One characteristic of the file is that it keeps these data during all in-process and stored non-SMTP messages. When formatting the EDM file, it uses a b-tree structure. This means that the file consists of both the top-level node and various child nodes. EDB files have two primary variations that are used in information exchange. These are Priv1.edb and Pub1.edb. Both of these files have a corresponding STM file extension attached to them. The reason for this extra extension is that they contain the SMTP messages, which are the stored messages that are not being processed. A slight variation of the EDB files is the type 2 counterparts. Type 2 is also a database file but created by the Windows search feature.
