Description

BOX File

The BOX file extension is a mailbox format that stores a collection of emails, each of which can be accessed individually. Many organizations such as Foxmail and Calypso use it to sort email for clients in a more convenient manner.

DAT File

A generic format, the DATA extension is used by some specific applications to store data in text or binary form. These files can only be accessed by them, much like proprietary files. These files are not for users to access manually and only the applications which created them should fiddle with them too.

BIN File

A BIN extension is a data file that stores information in binary format. These are application-specific, and users cannot access them. Not much is known about them other than the fact that they are not in text format and not manually editable.

PST File

Developed by Microsoft, its Outlook and Exchange use the PST extension to store data. Each such file has a limit of 2 GB and can keep email folders, addresses, and other such information.
