What is a PACKAGE file?

This is a resource package file that was developed by Electronic Arts and is available in binary format. Some of the games that use the file include Sims 1, Sims 2, Sims 3, and sims 4. Package files store archived information for various games, which are mainly in an XML format. Some of the information includes sounds, textures, 3D modeling, and other vital game details such as the players and surrounding information. When you want to save PACKAGE files, you need to use the DBPF format. To edit the same files, you need to use simPE, S3PE, and S4PE which is a free editor for Sims 2, Sims 3 and Sims 4, respectively. All three games share the same file package. However, each carries a unique structure and format. Therefore, you should be knowledgeable when selecting the correct package editor for each one. If you are dealing with Sims 2 games, SimPE does not only view package files within but also fixes any occurring bugs.
